Avery's Music Journey

 Growing up with music, I would always listen to different types, especially based on who I was around. Whether it was a wedding, funeral, with my family, with my friends, with my sister, etc. A specific memory I recall was at one of my best friends mothers funeral. It was a rough and unexpected time, and lonely as well. This was a second mom to me, and she was close with all of my family. We would always listen to country music whenever we were all together, for example, the Kentucky Derby, graduations, and get togethers. The artists that always seemed to be on was Dan + Shay. During the funeral, there were many songs being played that we all remembered listening to with her, but the most memorable one was Speechless by Dan + Shay. This song really struck us when it turned on, as she always lit up a room when she walked in, she was breathtakingly beautiful and was important to everyone around her.  As soon as this blog assignment was posted, I knew exactly the person I wanted to interview, my dad. Since my dad had such a strong affect on my music taste, I wanted to learn more about how his music taste came to be, and what affected his music taste! When he was growing up, he listened to a lot of classic and progressive rock of the 70’s and 80’s. (Which is not surprising, he really got me into this). When I asked him who had the most influence on his music taste, he said his friends had more of an influence than family regarding what he listened to. His opinion on the music today vs what he listened to and still listen to today has few musical similarities with todays genres. He states one of the biggest differences he hears is how musical sounds produced today seemingly rely heavily on technology.  Growing up, it was always easy to tell what certain people thought certain genders should do, even when it came to music. Although, I grew up always listening to the music my dad played. This consisted of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, the Eagles, Journey, Aerosmith, etc. I have always been told by others that even listening to this type of music is not considered "feminine." I have always been a person to like all types of music, and always have thought the idea of certain genres belonging to a certain gender is incorrect. Obviously, not everyone had or has his mindset, but I remember a specific moment in the 4th grade when I was talking to a male classmate about my favorite song at that moment (that song being by Aerosmith.)  Hello! My name is Avery Fulmore, and I am a freshman. I was born and raised in Louisville, KY, and music has always been a part of my life. My aunt played the violin in the professional orchestra in my city, which led me to want to play the violin, as well. I played for about three years, starting when I was 11. I also picked up the ukulele and piano around that time, but never got super good at them! I've always enjoyed listening to different types of music, and it's been a type of comfort for me growing up!
